Accessibility Statement

Last updated July 28, 2026.

This site targets WCAG 2.2 Level AA, the current Web Content Accessibility Guidelines standard from the World Wide Web Consortium.

WCAG 2.2 AA includes every WCAG 2.1 AA success criterion and adds several more. South Dakota’s Bureau of Information and Telecommunications requires WCAG 2.1 AA, and the U.S. Department of Justice’s Title II rule sets WCAG 2.1 AA as the floor for state and local government websites. Meeting WCAG 2.2 AA meets both.

Accessibility Measures in This Build

  • Every part of the site, including the full book Shelf, works by keyboard alone and without JavaScript.
  • Focus outlines appear on every control and are checked to stay visible against both backgrounds used on this site.
  • Interactive controls are at least 24 by 24 pixels, meeting the WCAG 2.2 target size minimum. Primary actions such as Add to Cart are sized larger still, at 44 pixels tall.
  • Book cover color fields are checked for contrast. When a jacket color cannot clear the contrast requirement, the page falls back to a plain background instead.
  • Motion is reduced or removed for visitors whose systems ask for it.
  • Visited links are never styled differently from unvisited links.
  • Every page has a skip-to-content link, headings in order, and labeled landmarks.
  • Cover images carry a written description for screen readers.
  • Every page declares its language.

Known Limitations

This is a concept build for review, not the final delivered site. The shopping cart, checkout, and newsletter sign-up are demonstrations; none of them process a real transaction or message.

This statement is our own review against the WCAG 2.2 AA success criteria. An independent, outside accessibility audit has not yet been done.
