What is LRS? Where is LRS located?

Lakeshore Recycling Services (LRS) is a locally owned waste and recycling hauler based in nearby Rosemont, but with locations and facilities throughout Chicagoland, Wisconsin, Minnesota, and Iowa. LRS started services in 2001 and has since become one of the country’s largest independent haulers.

What is LRS' holiday schedule?

Garbage, recycling, and yard waste are collected Monday through Friday.

If one of the holidays listed below falls on a weekday (Monday–Friday), collection will be delayed by one day for the remainder of that week. For example, if the holiday falls on a Monday, Monday collections move to Tuesday, Tuesday collections move to Wednesday, and so on. Friday collections will be completed on Saturday.

If a listed holiday falls on a Saturday or Sunday, there is no change to the regular collection schedule.

The following holidays affect collection schedules when they occur on a weekday:

  • New Year’s Day
  • Memorial Day
  • Independence Day
  • Labor Day
  • Thanksgiving Day
  • Christmas Day

What if I want a different size cart or additional one?

If you decide that you’d like to exchange your cart(s) for a different size, you may do so either via phone or online.

Do I bag my recyclables and then place them in the recycling cart? Can I use plastic bags?

Unless you are using a paper bag, please do not use plastic bags in recycling carts. You can also place all recyclable items loose directly in your recycling cart. For a list of other acceptable items, please visit LRS' website.

How does LRS handle bulk items?

Up to two (2) bulk items will be collected as long as each item is under 50 pounds and under two (2) cubic yards. Additional information can be found on LRS' website.

Can I rent a yard waste/compost cart?

Residents may use Kraft paper bags or a 35-gallon or smaller can with a weight limit up to 50 pounds and marked with "YW" for yard waste pick up. Residents also have the option to rent a yard waste cart with an annual fee.

LRS requires yard waste stickers in other towns. Are Schaumburg residents required to purchase stickers?

No. There are no yard waste, garbage, or recycling stickers needed in the Village of Schaumburg.

Additionally, LRS allows residents to use their own 35-gallon or smaller can for yard waste, free of charge. The can needs to be clearly marked with a "YW" and the weight cannot exceed 50 pounds.

What plastics accepted in recycling containers?

Plastic codes 1-5 and 7 are accepted.
