Fireworks Permit – Venetian Festival Display

DESCRIPTION: The Saugatuck-Douglas Convention and Visitors Bureau has submitted a request for Council to approve a fireworks display permit during the Venetian Festival. The City Code requires Council approval: § 92.07 FIREWORKS DISPLAY. A permit from the City Council is required for the possession, use, or discharge of display fireworks, articles pyrotechnic or special effects (collectively for purposes of this subchapter hereinafter "display fireworks") for public or private display within the city on terms and in a manner consistent with the Act. The storage of fireworks shall be prohibited in the city except in compliance with the Act. All permits shall be subject to compliance with this subchapter and the Act. In the event of any conflict between this subchapter and the Act, the more stringent provision shall control. A safety meeting is being scheduled. Approval of the overall event is also forthcoming to the Council. BUDGET ACTION: None. LEGAL REVIEW: Legal will be at your meeting for any questions. SAMPLE MOTION: Motion to approve a permit for fireworks display on July 26 with a rain date of July 27, contingent upon a safety meeting and all conditions of the safety meeting being followed.
