Group photo This project for investigative journalists, reporters and editors from sixteen countries sought to explore the role that investigative journalists play in U.S. society by raising awareness of issues of social concern and by informing the public about corruption, graft, abuse of power and other issues that impact government, local communities, business, the environment, health, safety, and society. Participants explored the values and ethics that underlie investigative journalism in the U.S. and examined the impact of investigative journalism on U.S. history as well as on current politics and society.

The program also examined the impact of social media, citizen journalism and alternative forms of reporting. The project included visits to St. Louis and Columbia, Missouri; Louisville, Kentucky; New Orleans, Louisiana; Reno, Nevada; and San Francisco and Sacramento, California.
