Foreign Policy Think Tank Exchange

Foreign Policy Think Tank Exchange

Overview IVLP participants with the Honorary Swiss Consul General Ten think tank leaders from Switzerland came to the U.S. to participate in the "Foreign Policy Think Tank Exchange" International Visitor Leadership Program (IVLP). The week long program was organized in an effort to facilitate the interaction of U.S. think tanks with global governance institutions. It also sought to help the participants develop strategies for integrating a younger generation into the work of think tanks and gain exposure to examples of how American think tanks have earned their respected roles in providing valuable counsel to policy makers.

The visitors took part in appointments in Washington, DC; Philadelphia, PA; and Boston, MA. In Washington, the visitors were welcomed by the program team and State Department officials before meeting with renowned think tanks including the Brookings Institution, the Heritage Foundation, and the Center for American Progress. After Washington, the visitors travelled on to Philadelphia to learn about best practices from experts at the University of Pennsylvania, engage with a senior staff member from Senator Patrick Toomey's office, (R-PA), and meet with the Honorary Consul of Switzerland.

Following Philadelphia, the program ended in Boston, where the visitors met with faculty members from both the Belfer Center for Science and International Affairs at Harvard University and the Poverty Action Lab at MIT.
