Central and Eastern Europe Journalist Fellowship Program

The Central and Eastern Europe Journalist Fellowship Program, funded by the U.S. Department of State through the U.S. Embassy in Paris and implemented by Meridian International Center, expands the capacity of professional journalists and improves the sustainability of citizen-generated media in Central and Eastern Europe. Through conferences, skills building workshops, networking, and professional fellowships, journalists increase professional standards, advance the credibility and accuracy of their reporting, build cross continental partnerships, and bolster sustainability of an independent media sector in the region.

This initiative brings journalists from across Central and Eastern Europe to the United States for training and a two-month professional fellowship at a U.S. media organization as well as journalism, media and digital literacy training at U.S. universities and organizations. Program Dates: August 30 - November 11, 2020 This program is funded by the U.S. Department of State through the U.S. Embassy in France and is implemented by Meridian International Center.

View Application and Selection Information The U.S. program includes the following components Program Opening in Washington, D.C. for fellows to network with U.S. media and Department of State representatives and gain exposure to the US media landscape through trainings, workshops, and professional networking sessions; A two-month professional fellowship placement in one of 4 U.S. cities: Detroit, MI; Salt Lake City, UT; Seattle, WA; or Raleigh, NC; Skill development workshops and trainings in U.S. placement city, as well as professional site visits and meetings, and cultural activities; Closing Conference (City To Be Announced) to reflect on the collective experience of the fellowship, exchange ideas and best practices with full fellowship cohort, strengthen professional networks, and further opportunities to engage with US media professionals and Department of State representatives.
