Common questions

FAQs

What is a charter school?

A charter school is an independently run public school. Charter schools are granted greater flexibility in their operations. In return for this flexibility, charter schools are expected to perform at a higher level of standard in both test scores and graduation rates.

What grades are offered at GREEN Charter?

GREEN offers K–12th grades across seven campuses. Our Greenville Elementary serves K–5, our Middle School serves 6–8, and our Upstate High School serves 9–12. Other campuses serve K–8. Each campus is tailored to its community's needs.

Is there a cost to attend GREEN?

No. Charter schools are tuition-free, like all public schools. All students, regardless of background or income, are eligible to submit an application for the lottery. There are no enrollment fees or hidden costs.

What is the student-to-teacher ratio?

The average class size is approximately 20 students. Each grade level has 2–4 classes, so student count per grade varies by campus. Smaller class sizes enable more one-on-one time between teacher and student, and support our personalized learning approach.

How do I find the school calendar and key dates?

All school closings, holidays, and early dismissal days are listed on the school calendar issued at the beginning of the school year. You can also find the calendar on our website, contact the main office for a copy, or search our site using the Ask GREEN search.

How does the lottery work?

GREEN holds a fair lottery for each grade and campus. Every qualified application has an equal chance of selection. Siblings of current students receive automatic enrollment. Siblings of applicants in the same lottery receive priority in the drawing.
