The Utilities department manages the utilities provided by the City of Edgerton to residents and businesses, and their associated infrastructure. The City of Edgerton provides sewer services and water services to its residents and businesses. Edgerton's sewer treatment is provided by the City-owned Big Bull Creek Wastewater Treatment Plant, which has a maximum capacity of close to 500,000 gallons of wastewater per day.

Where does Edgerton source its water?

The City of Edgerton purchases water through partnerships with Johnson County Rural Water District 7, Miami County Rural Water District 2 and Baldwin City. The majority of our water is sourced from Hillsdale Reservoir.

Safety is top priority!

Water professionals – from engineers designing infrastructure to operators monitoring treatment plants around the clock – work to ensure the water is safe to drink and readily available. Water systems are required to regularly sample and test the water for different contaminants to verify the water they are serving to the public meets all federal and state standards. These water samples must be analyzed by a state-approved laboratory and the results must be reported to the State of Kansas. You can read Edgerton's water quality report in our Consumer Confidence Report at the bottom of this page.

Rates

Water

The City of Edgerton sets water rates to encourage water conservation. Every customer pays a monthly service charge based on meter size and location of service to connect to the City's water system. The water volume rate is the charge per 1,000 gallons for usage of water, with consumption rounded up to the next one hundred gallons.

Sewer

The City of Edgerton sets a monthly service fee for connection to the City's sewer system. Each residential customer also pays a sewer volume rate, which is the charge per 1,000 gallons for sewer usage. Rates are based on a three month average from December-February. Each customer's winter average is recalculated annually in March.

Commercial customers sewer rates are based upon each month's actual water usage rounded to the nearest 1,000 gallons.
