Accessibility
Built for everyone, audited continuously.
This redesign is built to meet WCAG 2.1 AA with zero axe-core violations in the prototype. We'll audit the live site monthly, maintain compliance with an on-site ADA tool, and train staff to sustain accessibility as the site grows.
Skip-to-content link
A skip link at the top of every page lets keyboard users jump straight to the main content without tabbing through the header.
Readable type & spacing
Barlow body text at 17px with 1.6 line-height and AA contrast meets WCAG standards for legibility on any screen size.
Meaning not by color alone
We pair color with icons, text, and borders so people with color blindness get the same message as anyone else.
Full keyboard navigation
Tap Tab to move through the site. Interactive elements have a visible camellia focus ring for clarity.
Labeled forms & clear errors
Every input has a label. If something goes wrong, we explain what happened and how to fix it, not in jargon but in plain language.
Descriptive alt text
Images have alt text that describes what they show. Decorative images are marked hidden so screen readers skip them.
Continuous compliance
An audited, trained, and accountable approach.
Monthly audits
The live Serve Alabama site runs automated axe-core scans every month. Results go to the GOVS team so staff know exactly what's working.
ADA tool
An accessible compliance tool on the live site lets residents flag any barriers they find and get a response.
Annual third-party review
Each year, an independent auditor reviews the full site against WCAG 2.1 AA and identifies any drift or new barriers.
Tell us what's not working
See a barrier? Let GOVS know.
We want the site to work for everyone. If you hit something that doesn't work for you, whether it's a mobile issue, a keyboard problem, or something else, tell us. We'll respond and fix it.
