City of Tecumseh Launches a Downtown Streetscape Design with Community Engagement Opportunities
TECUMSEH, MI - The City of Tecumseh and the Downtown Development Authority (DDA) proudly announce the launch of a Downtown Streetscape Design project – focused on accessibility, sustainability, and flexibility while embracing the history and community of the downtown area.
The City has partnered with Jones Petrie Rafinski (JPR), chosen for their experience in the development and implementation of streetscape design. As an architecture and engineering firm based in northern Indiana, JPR is known for its innovative and cost-effective community solutions.
To ensure the Downtown Streetscape Design is truly community-driven, the team is launching an online survey and hosting a community workshop. These engagement opportunities are designed to gather valuable input from residents and stakeholders, ensuring their voices are heard and incorporated into the planning process.
Online Community Survey #1: The online survey is available from August 1-31, 2025. The survey invites residents, business owners, and visitors to share feedback on Downtown Tecumseh. It asks how people currently use the area, their impressions of the existing streetscape, and what features or improvements they’d like to see in the future. Responses will help shape the design of the updated downtown streetscape.
Community Workshop #1: A community workshop will be held on September 22, 2025 at 6pm in the Council Chambers located at City Hall (309 E. Chicago Blvd., Tecumseh). This interactive session will provide a platform for residents to share their ideas, discuss concerns, and collaborate on the design of future streetscape enhancements. A quorum of council may occur at the meeting. Online Community Survey #2: A second online survey will be available during the months of December and January. The survey invites residents, business owners, and visitors to share feedback on the initial design concepts. The survey will explore designs, comparisons, and possibilities that exist throughout the downtown district. Responses will help shape the final downtown streetscape design which will tentatively be unveiled in March or April 2026. Community Workshop #2: The second community workshop is set for December 3 at 6 PM in City Council Chambers (weather permitting). The public is encouraged to join us as we explore the proposed streetscape design concepts, share your thoughts, and vote on your favorite concepts. A quorum of council may occur at the meeting.
The project will unfold in two phases. Phase 1 focuses on community engagement and analysis, while Phase 2 will develop design concepts supported by a detailed report, funding assessment, and implementation plan.
